Interships & Volunteer Opps
Urban GreenWorks is dedicated to sharing our knowledge and expertise with others as well as learning from those who choose to share of their knowledge and expertise with us. We believe in fostering education through continued learning, to this end we offer a few internship opportunities for high school and college students. These "funternships" offer practical, real-world experiences that connect with academic principles. The approach is holistic and offers a great opportunity for creative minds that like to connect their craft with the real world.
UGW host volunteers and volunteer groups throughout the year. Volunteers are always welcome at our urban farm sites. However, we do reserve Saturday mornings as our weekly volunteer day. We also reserve Sundays and Wednesday afternoons for volunteer groups (i.e., corporate, academic). Just send us an email to schedule a group event.
A MLK Week of Service is also offered annually. UGW also offers service learning and community service opportunities for students and residents.
While things may change seasonally in south Florida, there is always work to do, even during our long, hot summers. Every helping hand is welcomed.

Urban Farm Interns
10 hrs per week for 4 months
UGW is expanding its urban farm operations for the 2018-2019 season. We are reclaiming over an acre of urban green space and increasing our food production. Our efforts will go to support several community food efforts including but not limited to - farm-to-table culinary arts program, a vegan-based get healthy program, local farmers markets, farm stands, C.S.A.s, school garden programs, cooking demos, community dinners, and donations to local NFPS and residents.
To this end we are looking for two farm interns, to work at our Liberty City and Brownsville sites. While enthusiasm and a love for garden are the initial prerequisites, a background or experience in the environmental science, gardening, or farming is preferred. We do not expect interns to be master gardeners, so do not be discouraged. We will train you and instill in you the knowledge and practices needed on an urban farm.
Urban farming is more that just growing food. It's about understanding a community's food security and insecurity landscape. What are the social determinants of health (SDOH) that affects a community's health? How do these factors influence individual decision-making, as it pertains to their health.
